Intrathecal analgesia pump implantation available in Royallee, to truly relieve the pain of cancer patients

Cancer patients often experience many symptoms and complications while fighting cancer, including chronic pain in the most advanced cancer cases. Cancer pain is very intense. With the gradual aggravation of the disease, patients are tortured by more and more intense pain that causes physical exhaustion and declined immunity. Unlike general pain, cancer pain is poorly managed by conventional analgesics, and in many cases only morphine can control cancer pain.

However, as the disease progresses, the dosage of analgesics and morphine gradually increases, which is followed by the toxic and side effects of the drugs. Many cancer patients are in such a dilemma: the dose is in place and the pain is controlled, but the side effects of large doses of drugs are not tolerable; the pain is not well controlled when the side effects are tolerable. Is there a way to precisely control the medication, to safely maximize pain control with the smallest dose and very few side effects? The development of intrathecal analgesia pump implantation is a good news for cancer pain patients.

Real case presentation

Mr. Y, 47 years old, diagnosed with kidney cancer for 10 months, has developed lung and bone metastases, and undergone radical resection. Currently, he is actively receiving combined therapy of immunotherapy + radiotherapy + ablation. However, due to repeated systemic bone pain, he is on long-term use of analgesics. Recently, the pain in the back is quite remarkable that he can't stand up. His mental status, appetite, and sleep are very poor, with weight loss of 10kg. For further treatment, he came to Palliative Medicine Center of Royallee with his family.

After consultation of anesthesiology and imaging department, with comprehensive consideration of the patient's condition, physical constitution, pain scale, and previous medication, the expert team performed intrathecal pump implantation for Mr. Y.

In this operation, under the guidance of mobile X-ray imaging equipment, a matchbox-sized pumping device is implanted subcutaneously in the patient's abdomen in a minimally invasive way, which directly acts on the nervous system to achieve efficient analgesia. This technology can adjust the infusion rate at any time through the in vitro intelligent control system, which is equivalent to building a "highway" in the patient's body to inject painkillers around the clock, and the dosage is only 1/300 of the oral dose.

Post analgesia pump implantation

Although the dosage has been greatly reduced, the drug acts directly on the nervous system, so the analgesic effect is not reduced at all. Due to the substantial reduction of the dose, it can not only effectively reduce adverse reactions such as constipation, vomiting, nausea and loss of appetite, and at the same time greatly alleviate the patient's addiction and dependence on painkillers.

After the cancer pain is significantly relieved, the patient's mental status, appetite, and body immunity will also be significantly improved, and the patient's survival time will be prolonged. It is a more suitable treatment plan for advanced cancer patients. After the operation, Mr. Y said that the pain has been completely relieved, and he had a good sleep for the first time since the onset of the disease. He and his family are very satisfied.

This technology is a new solution for the precise treatment of cancer pain, which will help more patients with advanced cancer pain improve their quality of life. There is a variety of cancer pain treatment and analgesia methods in Guangzhou Royallee Cancer Center, in where doctors have rich clinical and surgical experience, so that many cancer pain patients regain their confidence in treatment here. It is our eternal goal to provide safe and comfortable "painless" services and a painless experience throughout the process, so as to win the future for patients.
