Thai Medical Delegation Visits for Deeper China-Thailand Cross-Border Medical Cooperation

Leveraging the strategic location advantage of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as an international medical hub, and closely aligning with the bilateral health cooperation framework between China and Thailand as well as the broader development of healthcare connectivity under the Belt and Road Initiative, the China-Thailand Cross-Border Medical Cooperation Exchange and the Thai Medical Delegation Visit were successfully held at Guangzhou Royal Lee Cancer Hospital on June 23. A delegation of experts from the National Cancer Institute of Thailand and the Higher Education Commission under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand visited our hospital for an onsite inspection and indepth discussions.

01 On-site Inspection of Core Strengths – International Medical Services Highly Recognized by Thai Delegation

As a public oncology institution in Southeast Asia, the National Cancer Institute of Thailand has been deeply engaged in local cancer prevention and treatment for many years and has established a mature international medical service system. On this occasion, a specialized research delegation, led by the representative of the Director of the National Cancer Institute of Thailand, conducted a comprehensive onsite evaluation of our hospital's achievements in international medical development.

The guests toured our hospital.

Accompanied by hospital leaders, the Thai delegation toured the International Medical Centre, the advanced oncology equipment zone, and the one-stop cross-border medical service support areas, observing our standardised oncology diagnosis and treatment procedures, high-end specialised medical equipment configuration, and the full-process international patient service system. Our well-established closed-loop international patient service model, mature oncology specialty technologies, and globally benchmarked medical quality control system left a deep impression on the Thai delegation. The delegation unanimously commented that Guangzhou Royal Lee Cancer Hospital combines robust medical technological strength with refined humanistic care, and is fully capable of receiving cross-border oncology patients from Southeast Asia and conducting in-depth multinational medical collaboration – making it a preferred partner for the Thailand National Cancer Centre.

02 Mutual Benefit and Complementary Strengths – Strategic Meeting Maps Out a Win-Win Blueprint for Cross-Border Medical Collaboration

Following the on-site inspection, both sides held a dedicated strategic cooperation symposium. Present from Guangzhou Royal Lee Cancer Hospital were Chairman Li Min, Chief Advisor Jiang Wenqi, Vice President Ma Lanying, Assistant to the President Tang Haibo, and heads of relevant departments. The two parties engaged in in-depth discussions focusing on bilateral technology transfer, two-way cross-border patient referral, designated diagnosis and treatment for Southeast Asian oncology patients, and joint academic and scientific research – clarifying cooperation pathways and finalising implementation details.

Chairman Li Min

Chairman Li Min delivered a welcome address, presenting the hospital's development positioning and internationalisation strategy: as one of the few JCI-accredited oncology specialty hospitals in the Greater Bay Area, our hospital always adheres to a patient-centred approach and strives to deliver a warm oncology care service system. He noted that the demand for oncology diagnosis and treatment in Southeast Asia continues to rise, while quality specialised medical resources are unevenly distributed, and cross-border care barriers remain prominent. This strategic cooperation leverages the differentiated advantages of both sides to achieve two-way value enhancement. On one hand, our hospital will export China's mature comprehensive oncology treatment protocols, cutting-edge technologies, and clinical experience with innovative domestic anti-cancer drugs, filling the gaps in complex oncology care in Thailand and Southeast Asia – allowing regional patients to benefit from China's high-level oncology services. On the other hand, the hospital will introduce Thailand's proven international medical operation management expertise and high-end cross-border service systems to further optimise our international patient care processes. The two-way flow and complementary strengths of medical resources between the two countries will ultimately benefit oncology patients on both sides.

The Thai medical delegation spoke highly of our hospital's software and hardware capabilities, specialized diagnosis and treatment standards, and international service capacity. The delegation noted that in recent years, cancer incidence in Thailand has been rising year by year, and there exists a technological gap in the treatment of complex and severe oncology cases locally, creating an urgent need to introduce advanced Chinese oncology medical technologies and high-end diagnostic and therapeutic equipment to optimize Thailand's domestic treatment system. This visit has completely dispelled any concerns regarding cooperation. The Thai side is full of confidence in the future indepth collaboration between both parties and looks forward to accelerating the implementation process, promptly introducing China's cutting-edge medical technologies and equipment, and jointly building a highquality oncology diagnosis and treatment network in Southeast Asia.

Chief Advisor Jiang Wenqi

Vice President Ma Lanying

After intensive deliberations, both sides reached a consensus on strategic cooperation. They clearly agreed that they will conduct frequent, point-to-point communications to refine every implementation process, accelerate the signing of a formal strategic cooperation agreement, and turn cross-border medical collaboration from blueprint into reality without delay.

This strategic partnership between Guangzhou Royal Lee Cancer Hospital and the Thailand National Cancer Centre is far more than a one-off institutional exchange – it represents a critical step for Greater Bay Area oncology medical forces to expand into Southeast Asia. It is not only a precise export of China's premium oncology technologies and innovative pharmaceutical achievements to ASEAN countries, but also an important strategic move for our hospital to align with international high-end medical service standards and enhance our global healthcare network. It is both a medical technology handshake across mountains and seas, and a testament to the borderless humanistic care inherent in the healer's vocation. Looking ahead, Guangzhou Royal Lee Cancer Hospital will take this exchange as a new starting point to continue deepening cross-border oncology services in Southeast Asia, steadily improving the integrated ecosystem of cross-border referral, technology co-development, academic exchange, and service co-creation.
