Remarkable Recovery:Ms. Chen's Journey Through Uterine Fibroid Treatment

"Everyone, including my relatives and friends, was surprised at how quickly I got out of bed and started moving around."

"The entire hospital is excellent. The nurses and doctors are really caring and responsible towards the patients."

58-year-old Ms. Chen from Meizhou, praises the medical staff whenever she can. She's in good spirits, full of energy, and you couldn't tell she just had major surgery (total abdominal hysterectomy + bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy).

The physical examination revealed multiple solid masses in the uterus.

Speaking of this illness, Ms. Chen is also surprised.

Ms. Chen is usually healthy, aside from mild symptoms of high blood pressure. She doesn't have abdominal pain or bloating, abnormal vaginal bleeding, frequent urination, urgency, diarrhea, or constipation. So it was a shock when one day during the Chinese New Year, she noticed blood stains while wiping herself after urinating. Her daughter and daughter-in-law got very worried upon hearing this. The daughter-in-law suggested going to Guangzhou because there's a targeted cancer prevention health check at the Guangzhou Royal Lee Cancer Center near their newly purchased house. Their neighbors mentioned the elegant environment and convenient one-stop service.

So, after the festival, accompanied by her daughter-in-law, Ms. Chen went to the Guangzhou Royal Lee Cancer Center for targeted health check-ups. The result was—transvaginal pelvic ultrasound indicated multiple solid masses in the uterus with some areas of increased blood flow. After understanding the situation, Dr. Wang Meilin, who consulted at the hospital, analyzed that Ms. Chen most likely has multiple uterine fibroids. Of course, uterine malignancies also need to be ruled out, so she suggested further examination and scheduling for surgery.

"After menopause, suddenly discovering fibroids, and multiple ones at that, with some as large as five centimeters or more. Benign tumors usually grow slowly, and Ms. Chen didn't have them before, so discovering multiple uterine fibroids in a short period made us worry. Although benign uterine fibroids are more common, just to be safe, I recommended Ms. Chen undergo further examination before deciding on the treatment plan," explained Dr. Wang Meilin.

Meticulous medical care, rapid postoperative recovery

After discussing with her family, Ms. Chen decided to be admitted for further diagnosis and treatment. After further examination, she was diagnosed with multiple uterine leiomyomas. Under the guidance of Dr. Wang Meilin and the gynecological team, a surgical plan was formulated for Ms. Chen. After completing all preoperative examinations, she successfully underwent a "total abdominal hysterectomy + bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy." With careful treatment and nursing by medical staff and cooperation from her family, Ms. Chen recovered well postoperatively. She was discharged on the third day after surgery and is currently recuperating at home, making excellent progress.

It is reported that after Ms. Chen was admitted, Dr. Wang Meilin's team formulated a treatment plan for her, providing detailed explanations and communications with her and her family about the surgical plan, alternative options, potential problems during recovery, and risks of not undergoing surgery.

This included detailed discussions and instructions on preoperative diet, skin preparation, and precautions; how patients and their families should cooperate regarding diet and activities after surgery to facilitate rapid recovery, all of which were thoroughly communicated and instructed before surgery. The surgery, which involved a total abdominal hysterectomy + bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, was smoothly conducted. With excellent cooperation from the patient and her family, coupled with meticulous care from medical staff postoperatively, Ms. Chen experienced a rapid recovery. She was able to get out of bed and move around after 6 hours post-surgery, passed gas by the next noon, and was discharged on the third day after surgery.

"We, especially in the Royal Lee Gynecology Department, prioritize rapid postoperative recovery. Medically speaking, there are various surgical methods for multiple uterine fibroids, including minimally invasive, abdominal, and vaginal approaches. Considering Ms. Chen's condition of multiple uterine leiomyomas, enlarged uterus, and multiple fibroids in the cervical region, we chose the abdominal approach. Although it's an open surgery, due to thorough preoperative communication and excellent cooperation from the patient's family, coupled with meticulous care postoperatively, Ms. Chen's rapid recovery was achieved," Dr. Wang Meilin explained.

When asked about the treatment process, Ms. Chen couldn't help but praise, "I told you, the doctors here are skilled, and the care before and after surgery is very meticulous, so I recovered quickly!" "I'm already thinking about going home, but the doctor said if the pathology results come back clean, I can go home to recuperate. They genuinely consider things from my perspective and don't push for unnecessary hospitalization." "I even recommended to my relatives and friends to come here and get checked early."
