A 65-year-old woman with a history of gastric fundus and cardia neuroendocrine adenocarcinoma faced significant challenges after her surgery. Ten months post-operation, she experienced local recurrence, metastasis, anastomotic obstruction, and severe malnutrition, resulting in a weight loss of nearly 10 kg over three months due to a loss of appetite. Seeking trusted care, she traveled to Guangzhou Royallee Cancer Center to consult with Prof. Liu Haiying, the esteemed head of the gastrointestinal surgery department.
Diagnosis and Treatment Plan
Upon examination and a multidisciplinary team (MDT) consultation, the medical team proposed a gastrostomy to address her nutritional needs. This intervention aimed to improve her condition, allowing further treatments like chemotherapy and molecular targeted therapy to be considered once her nutritional status stabilized.
Successful Surgery
On August 6, the gastrostomy—marking the significative surgery at the newly established Guangzhou Royallee Cancer Center—was performed under the leadership of Prof. Liu Haiying and the Anesthesiology Department. The procedure was highly successful, with minimal blood loss of just 2 ml. This innovative approach alleviated her eating difficulties and significantly improved her quality of life. She is currently experiencing a rapid and smooth recovery.
