About Yttrium-90
Yttrium-90 is produced by irradiating yttrium-89, with a half-life of 2.66 days, decaying to stable zirconium-90. Radioactive microspheres containing Yttrium-90 are injected into the liver artery via precise catheter guidance. These microspheres continuously release beta particles in the liver, targeting and destroying tumor cells.
