Get rid of 8-cm uterus myoma now with a minimal trauma!

Uterus myoma is the most prevalent gynecological tumor. Though benign in most cases, it still affects normal life once it occupies a large space or expands too quickly. In this situation, surgery is a prudent option. Lancy (pseudonym) was 48 years old and had an upset tummy recently. She didn’t take it seriously until she touched a lump in her lower abdomen. This baffled her and she did a ultrasound test, which showed there was an 8-cm uterus myoma.

Imaging tests

An 8-cm uterus myoma made her look like a woman bearing a 3-month fetus. Lancy barely fell ill before and this was a blow to her. She said that everything was fine in last year’s workup but this big stuff just suddenly turned up. She asked her friends for advice and heard some doctors’ names. Finally, she chose Guangzhou RoyalLee Cancer Center.

Lancy saw gynecologist Merrill Wang in the first time. Then Director Luo Xiaoqin joined the consultation. When further imaging test was completed, Director Luo concluded that the uterus myoma was operable. The gynecology team discussed a surgery plan.

Director Luo introduced that compared with conventional laparoscope, single-incision laparoscopy surgery is functionally equivalent and has many merits like small incision, less bleeding and fast recovery. It caters to female patients’ biological and aesthetic need.

Lancy was satisfied when she knew this surgery was scarless. On 18th October, Lancy received a successful single-incision laparoscopy surgery. The intraoperative bleeding was only 30ml.

Uterus myoma is the most well-know gynecological tumor. One out of every four fertile women has uterus myoma, according to the statistics. The lucky thing is that uterus myoma is not prone to malignancy. So it is common for women to carry uterus myoma.

But Director Luo reminds that if it grows too big or too quickly to affect normal life, surgery is a prudent option.

Following symptoms triggered by uterus myoma indicate for surgery

1. Anemia caused by hypermenorrhea and no response to medication

2. Severe abdominal pain, dyspareunia or chronic abdominal pain, acute abdominal pain caused by pedunculated myoma

3. Suppression on bladder or colon for being huge

4. Being the only cause for infertility or repeated abortion

5.Likely to transform to sarcoma

The surgery falls into several categories: abdominal surgery, transvaginal or minimally invasive hysteroscope and laparoscopy surgery. Uterus myoma, if situation allows, can be eliminated with uterus kept. This is what laparoscope can do for women. Laparoscope is a minimally invasive procedure we often mention. Doctors often complete the resection with Laparoscopic instrument and 3-4 small trauma in the abdomen.

Characteristics

1.Minimal invasion: The instrument access the body through a single incision

2.Safety: Accurate position, wide horizon, small trauma and wider application

3.Affordability: No suture removal is needed. It takes less time to recover, requires shorter hospital stay and lower expenditure

4.Aesthetics: The incision is only 1-2cm. And crease in navel will cover the incision. So this procedure is scarless.

However, this procedure doesn’t apply to all patients due to the peculiarity in operation.
