In August 2021, Guangzhou Royallee Cancer Center started its business, and the first surgery was performed on August 6.
It is understood that the patient, who is a 65-year-old woman with a history of gastric fundus and cardia neuroendocrine adenocarcinoma, was admitted due to local recurrence and metastasis 10 months after the surgery, anastomotic obstruction, and severe malnutrition with weight loss of nearly 10 kg in just 3 months due to loss appetite. She deeply trusts Prof. Liu Haiying who once treated her, and came to our hospital for treatment from a long distance after she knew that Prof. Liu Haiying is the head of the gastrointestinal surgery department at the Guangzhou Royallee Cancer Center.
After relevant examination and MDT consultation, a treatment option of gastrostomy was proposed based on the patient’s condition. The further treatment options such as chemotherapy and molecular targeted therapy will be considered after her nutritional condition improved through gastrostomy.
At 3:00pm on August 6, the gastrostomy, which was the first surgery since the establishment of Guangzhou Royallee Cancer Center, was performed under the cooperation of the team led by Prof. Liu Haiying of Gastrointestinal Surgery, and the Anesthesiology Department.
The surgery went very smoothly, and the blood loss during the surgery was only 2 ml. It solved the trouble in eating and malnutrition for the patient with minimal trauma, and improved her life quality. Currently, she is in a rapid and smooth recovery period.
Being engaged in medical practice for decades, Prof. Liu Haiying won the love and trust of patients with his superb skills and noble medical ethics. In 1999, he first performed radiofrequency ablation for solid tumors such as liver cancer in China. So far, he has treated over 2000 liver cancer patients with good postoperative effects. His original creation of phenolic debridement method for the treatment of peritoneal pseudomyxoma has reached the world-leading level, and the abdominal incision-free gasless laparoscopic radical resection of colorectal cancer was the first case in China.
